Housing - Community - Connection
Smart Share Housing Solutions began in 2017 as HomeShare SLO, in an effort to connect people and homes. Over the years, Smart Share has expanded its efforts to connect people and homes with new programs and offerings.
HomeShare SLO
Homesharing creates safe, affordable housing by matching home PROVIDERS (those with an extra room) and home SEEKERS (those looking for an affordable living space). Smart Share believes that homesharing, done well, benefits both seekers and providers with safe, affordable housing for both parties while providing social connection and still maintaining privacy. HomeShare SLO provides tools and education to help potential housemates find each other and manage their homesharing effectively. (link to HSSLO page/course)
ADU SLO
Smart Share brings technical support, innovation and inspiration around smaller housing solutions such as Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and Tiny Homes on Wheels (THOWs) through How-to-ADU workshops, videos, guides, technical assistance, and other useful information (see the AUD SLO page). Smart Share’s Demo Cottage shows how a THOW can function as a safe, efficient and beautiful living environment. You can see it at 466 Dana St. in San Luis Obispo.
Co-Living Collaborative
In Co-Living, residents have private space and shared common areas, affording privacy with a sense of community. Since 2017, Smart Share has been looking for potential properties, such as older motels, bed-and-breakfast inns, large residences and other under-utilized commercial properties, for possible acquisition and conversion to a co-living center. Many of these collaborative dwellings are successfully meeting people’s needs for housing in community all over the world. We are delighted to announce a partnership with the City of San Luis Obispo on the Waterman Village, a 20 home 100% affordable co-living project at 466 Dana St, in downtown San Luis Obispo.
Smart Share continues to use out-of-the-box thinking to create housing and build community with eduction, inspiration, and technical assistance through all of our three programs.
We hope this blog will make it easier for everyone to access the information and inspiration that will help our entire community connect more people and homes.
