There are many good reasons to homeshare. Five common reasons are detailed below.
Financial. In today’s economy, both people who own homes and people who don’t are struggling to stay housed. Pooling resources in the form of shared housing reduces one of the biggest expenses in everyone’s budgets, therefore making a lot of other things more manageable.
Social. It can be nice to come home to a quiet house after a hectic day at work, but loneliness can sneak up on you, especially after retirement. And chronic loneliness is bad for our health. Safety. Many people feel safer living as part of a group. If an emergency arises, there will be people around to help. This can make it possible to age in place for much longer than if someone were living alone.
Preserve the environment. For some people, the idea of saving resources by utilizing existing spaces more efficiently is a big incentive to homeshare.
Help the community. Why wait for the government or some other entity to make a difference or change things when you can take action yourself?
